It also monitors the influence of four examined factors on the colour change of surface treatments; the four factors being: exposure to natural light in the interior, the length of exposure to natural light and its influence on the surface treatment, types of wood surface treatment and parts of wood – sapwood, false heartwood. The submitted article deals primarly with colour changes occuring on the sapwood and the false heartwood of beech. The changing colour of surface treatment was evaluated on samples stored in the interior and exposed to natural light behind the window glass for the period of 10 months. The colour changes were also evaluated on samples stored in dark places where there was no exposure to light. More accentuated changes occured on wood finishes that were exposed to natural light radiation. Concerning the irradiated samples, the contrast between the sapwood and the false core has decreased after 10 months. On the contrary, it stayed preserved on the non-irradiated samples and could be easily seen with the naked eye.
