Selected properties of thermally treated ash wood

Andor, Tomáš, 1990- Selected properties of thermally treated ash wood / Tomáš Andor, Rastislav Lagaňa. -- Obr., tab. -- Lit. - The paper is focused on the impact of thermal treatment on the changes of selected physical and mechanical properties of ash wood. Effect of the treatment time and treatment temperature on density, equilibrium moisture content, the compression strength in the longitudinal direction and static and dynamic modulus of elasticity was analysed . The sa mples made of Common Ash ( Fraxinus excelsior L.) were modified in oxidized atmosphere at the temperatures of 160 °C, 180 °C, and 200 °C . Ea ch temperature treatment lasted for 3, 6, 9 and 12 hours. T he decrease in density and equilibrium moisture content wa s confirmed and important change s in mechanical properties were observed . Following the increase in elastic modulus and apparent strength , a 3 - hour treatment at the temperature of 200 °C was consider ed a reasonable compromise for high temperature treatment of ash wood .
