AnnotationThis paper deals with the problem of digital image processing and the method of optical flow detection. The optical flow contains information (spatial and temporal) which can be used for object detection in an environment as well as for navigation. The optical flow is defined through a vector field, the vectors of which represent speed at which the objects under detection move (environment texture). The described calculation method of optical flow and the proposed optical flow detector is inspired by biology, in particular by flying insects. The optical flow detector uses a simple algorithm and one-dimensional image detectors with low resolution. The proposed detector can be applied in low-energy systems for early object detection, obstacle avoidance and navigation, for example in autonomous ultra-light airplanes and slow-motion robots
