This importance is to be argued in the paper from different aspects, with the ultimate goal of enhancing its priority in language teaching. Both linguistic and non-linguistic phenomena are used as examples to illustrate the presented point of view: conversation and discourse analysis representing contemporary interdisciplinary trends in (pragma-) linguistics, conventional methodological approaches referring to either synchronic or diachronic perception of the issue, and real-life situations personally experienced by the author, or borrowed from the media. This material creates the background for the analysis of a selected LSP/ESP subject syllabus currently used at EF UMB.
