AnnotationThe most important current need for environmental education is to support the transfer of knowledge in an effective way in order to provide knowledge, awareness and action that enable people to transform themselves and transform societies. When creating an effective educational milieu, it is crucial to engage learners in an active learning environment. Experiential learning falls within the spectrum of active learning, representing activities that can maintain students' knowledge and understanding for longer and at the same time enable them to apply what they have learned better on a broader scale. Our experiential learning model is based on the method of "The 6 C’s of Education for the 21st century" (Think Critically, Communicate Clearly, Work Collaboratively, Embrace Culture, Develop Creativity, Utilise Connectivity) with an emphasis on creating multiple opportunities for personal reflection in both curricular and cocurricular formats. This educational model encompasses all dimensions of time - past, present and future - because we strongly believe that effective education cannot afford to ignore any of them. The concept of working towards an effective learning space on environmental education and sustainability promotes cooperation and exchange in education amongst all sectors of education, and was developed on the basis of our national and international networks.
