AnnotationFrom the methodologic point of view we have built upon non-equlibrium thermodynamics to calculate solar energy dissipation by ecosystem and on diversity indexes of vascular plants to provide a simple tool for assessment of functional and structural complexity of an ecosystem. Comparing real and referential ecosystems (based on potential natural vegetation) enable us to measure their ecological distance, which is in reverse way to ecological integrity of a real ecosystem. Further, allocating to undisturbed ecosystem default capacity to provide ecosystem services allows us to quantify the capacity of a real ecosystem to provide sets of these services
