AnnotationThe approaches of multinational companies to the international human resources management are influenced by the degree of convergence and divergence in attitudes and management of the company. Examining the specificities of international human resources management and differences in the approaches of the multinational company's headquarters to subsidiaries in Slovakia is the goal of the paper. A prerequisite for achieving the stated goal is to conduct a survey with the managers of multinational companies, using a structured questionnaire. The opinions of managers on the advantages and disadvantages of working in the international environment are evaluated taking into account the current theoretical knowledge, the degree of centralization and decentralization of management and the specifics of national culture. The result of our examination is the finding that the human resources units created at the headquarters of a multinational corporation are responsible for staffing all processes in the parent company. At the parent company's level, centralizing activities related to planning top management needs, talent development, international project team management, expatriate remuneration, and top executives of subsidiaries are usually centralized. The centers define the procedures, steps for implementing individual IHRM processes based on the consensus (Best Practice, Best Fit) typical for a geocentric approach, or authoritative in view of the prevailing ethnocentric approach to entering foreign markets. A characteristic feature of the Slovaks' behavior is adaptability. The convergence rate in Slovakia is higher than the divergence rate. Performing basic processes related to search and recruitment, training, evaluation, motivation, employment, personnel administration, and release are mostly decentralized to subsidiaries.
