    AnnotationThe article accounts for the content analysis of basic principles and goals of Eisenhower´s doctrine aimed at building up huge numbers of strategic and tactical nuclear weapons while reducing conventional forces. A thorough look is given to the creation process of this strategy by American policy-makers and the way it subsequetly resulted in Eisenhower's defense policies while taking into consideration strategic and political background of that time - the hostility between the West and the Soviet Union such as the growing Soviet influence in Egypt and Syria resulting in the Suez Crisis of 1956. In order to give a comprehensive defense review, special attention within this article is given to verification of functioning of the main element of this doctrine: the concept of the "New Look" to U.S. national security policy in 1953, the way it eventually managed to meet the effective balancing of means and ends in the Eisenhower's defense policies to protect US national security and national
