The aim of the paper is to define the status and role of employee’s education and local elected representatives, and based on the analysis and comparison of actual conditions in Slovakia and Czech Republic to identify the problem areas and suggest possible solutions. The theoretical part of the paper is focused on definition of basic terms, the status and role of education in local municipalities. Practicallyoriented part of the contribution focuses on some aspects of real application of education in local municipalities of Slovak and Czech Republic based on the primary and secondary research, defines the problem areas and finally suggests the activities how to improve the current situation. This contribution is a partial issue of the project VEGA 1/1010/11 “Theoretic-methodological basis of planning in terms of territorial self-governments in SR”
