    AnnotationThe goal of this paper is to identify the differences in managers´ rhetoric and practice in human resource appraisal in Slovak companies. The author compares the importance of human resource from the side of managers with the implementation of the approaches of appraisal. To get effective orientation the author defines an initial hypothesis based on assumption that human resources appraisal is considered to be an important personnel activity in Slovak companies and actually in practice it is based on sociocentric approach. With the aim to prove validity of the hypothesis the author carries out empirical explorative-diagnostic research in 973 companies. Based on research results confirms validity of the hypothesis that a common practice in Slovak companies is socioentric appraisal of human resources but this type of appraisal does not show the features of qualified appraisal. Points to the veracity of the claim that Slovak managers' rhetoric and real practice in the human resources appraisal are different. In this paper she points out a necessity to look for a new approach to appraisal which should cover and integrate features of holistic-anthropocentric approach.
