AnnotationFractal geometry is currently used in the natural sciences, social sciences, and also in technology. The article focuses on the possibilities of its use in material technology for studying cracks and fractures in Cr-Ni stainless steels. Within the presented research, we first determine chemical composition of inspected steel samples using RTG line scan. Further we demonstrate use of fractal geometry to study the shape of cracks, as a suitable math-ematical method describing objects of irregular shapes. If the conditions of self-similarity are met, then fractal geometry can describe various curved geometric shapes, such as crack and fractures. This method may further help to determine the causes of these disorders and their initiation.
