Different aspects are concerned - including migration routes; demographic changes; economic, cultural or physical security of the receiving states. This paper aims to analyse socio-economic implications of the third-countries immigration to the Union's member states. First chapter deals with the impact of economic migrants and asylum seekers on the labour market and level of unemployment in the receiving countries. Next, potential misuse of the social-security system in the European Union by immigrants will be analyzed. Last chapter will conclude by exploring effects of migratory flows on the overall competitiveness and economic growth of the receiving states. Malá Fatra (Slovensko : pohorie) Language Slovak Country Slovak Republic systematics 574 Annotation The driving forces of biodiversity retreat and thus also decrease of the capacity of landscapes to provide ecosystem services (ES) include also insufficient evaluation of these services and underestimation of their dependency on naturally high complexity and integrity of ecological systems. Therefore, understanding, mapping and evaluating ES belongs to great challenges of the ecological research. In the theoretical part of the contribution we outline basic types of ES and their relation to natural capital. In the experimental part we introduce several results of the assessment of the capacity of the current landscape in National Park Mala Fatra to provide ES. The chosen process includes analysis of the current landscape structure in the area, combined with the scale-based evaluation and salary of ES provided by individual types of landscape elements. The results obtained point to great potential of the territory especially for a group of cultural ES. Of these, we selected and financially appreciated the value of recreational ES. Banská Štiavnica (Slovensko) Language English Country Slovak Republic systematics 574 Annotation The unique water management system of artificial water reservoirs in the surroundings of Banska Stiavnica played a significant role in the development of dam civil engineering in Slovakia. The construction began more than 500 years ago, but the development of mining industry in the first half of the 18th century started the important era in building of the dams. The paper investigates water reservoirs in the vicinity of Banska Stiavnica, their history, construction reasons, reconstruction and current using. The reconstruction of water works was realized in recent years within the Project for renovation of the historical waterworks. The engineering solution of the reconstruction ensures stability and increases the safety of the dam bodies with regard to their historical character. We verified the methodology of mapping, analysis and evaluation of the landscape on the basis of application of mapping procedures that use remote sensing data. Than we use Geographic Information Systems software, and methodology of the ecological stability of the landscape. We reviewed the development of landscape pads and their spatial structure through landscape metrics within the meaning. The reduction in the areas of deciduous, coniferous and mixed forests classes, which was caused by wind storm in 2004, the growth areas of intermittent building of residential and recreational buildings class and the growth of areas of sports and recreation facilities class, are the main changes in land use. The results of the thesis is important for the development of the region in accordance with the sustainable development. Donovaly (Slovensko) Language Slovak Country Slovak Republic systematics 94 Annotation In our article we analyze the functional and spatial changes that the settlements of Donovaly have passed during their development. Our aim is to uncover the causes of these changes and describe, how they have manifested in the territory of Donovaly's saddleback. The changes of functions are monitored in the context of the development model of tourism destination, made by R. Butler. Based on our current research, we have identified three of the six phases of the development of tourist centers - phase of recreational exploration, penetration and development of tourism in the form of assimilation, colonization and urbanization. The result is a model of tourism development in the Donovaly village, which documents the transformation of social-economical functions to recreational functions. Many areas of mine have a big potential which may be used not only at the local level, but extended beyond district or region borders. One of those locations is Smolnik where the exploitation was ended in 1989 and miners became unemployed. The work based on geographical and mining survey maps and sums up a database of information on well-preserved and closed mining workings. According to the unique historic mining map made in 1748 the 3D model of mining workings was created which can be applied as a browser on the interactive touch PC screen. The finds of mining artefacts with educational videos and the 3D model were displayed and installed in the exposition of the Slovak national mining museum. They can be used for publicity and educational purposes to help people understand the complexity, geometry and operation of mining underground activities.
