Ďumbierske Tatry Mts. are the western part of Nízke Tatry Mts. situated in the central Slovakia. Model territory has some 9500 hectares where 698 hectares of destructed morphogenetic forms had developed. The common signs of their distribution are presence on N, NW and S exposition, on slopes steeper than 25°, in elevation higher than 1600 m a. s. l. and were created on deluvial sediments – coarse-grained debris. Typical soils are podzols and lithosols or rankers, ergo sandy-loams and loamy sands Public work category ADF No. of Archival Copy 31854 Catal.org. No. of Archival Copy 31872 Catal.org. Raster data were derived from Corine Land Cover project land cover maps and reflect the state of BR land cover in 1990, 2000 and 2006. Land cover changes in Czech BRs occurred mainly in land cover classes of meadows and pastures (increase) and non-irigated arable land (decrease of extent). An increase in the extent of the transitional woodland-shrub class and the mixed forest class was the most significant in Slovak BRs. The biggest decrease in area extent was observed in the meadows and pastures class Public work category AFD No. of Archival Copy 31849 Catal.org. Comparing real and referential ecosystems (based on potential natural vegetation) enable us to measure their ecological distance, which is in reverse way to ecological integrity of a real ecosystem. Further, allocating to undisturbed ecosystem default capacity to provide ecosystem services allows us to quantify the capacity of a real ecosystem to provide sets of these services Public work category BFA No. of Archival Copy 31980 Catal.org. We demonstrate a new methodology to calculate a vertical-functional pillar of the landscape ecological complexity (LEC), based on indexes of ecosystems and landscape capacity to dissipate solar energy (and partially also of their vascular plants diversity). From the LEC index we derive a landscape ecological integrity (LEI) index as a sum of landscape ecosystems ecological distance to their referential native ecosystems. Consequently we combine LEI index and the default capacity of the undisturbed natural, seminatural or anthropogenic ecosystem to provide ecosystem services. In this way we obtain an assessment of the capacity of landscape to provide ecosystems services (LES) to human society URL https://www.pik-potsdam.de/members/zemp/gpl_osm_book_of_abstracts Public work category BFA No. of Archival Copy 31979 Catal.org. This change in demography has brought land use transformations that have a number documented environmental and landscape-ecological effects. The most consistent and pervasive effect is an increase in impervious surface cover within urban catchments, which alters natural infiltration, runoff of precipitation and hydrology of streams. In addition to imperviousness, runoff from urbanized surfaces as well as municipal and industrial discharges results in increased loadings of contaminants to stream ecosystems. Growing urban areas represent opportunities for ecologists interested in studying disturbance of river ecosystems, soil sealing, and effective landscape management. Water in the urban space has been considered up to now mostly from the perspective of water supply, sewage purification and storm water management, with increasing awareness of the necessity of freshwater ecosystems conservation. However there has been little holistic consideration of the freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems for moderation and control of the hydrological cycle in the city Public work category ADF No. of Archival Copy 27545 Catal.org. S. 101-112. - Zvolen : Technická univerzita vo Zvolene, 2013 Keywords integrovaný manažment povodí vodné zdroje ochrana krajiny - landscape protection Language Slovak Country Slovak Republic systematics 502 Annotation As water becomes increasingly scarce, water managers are searching for new and sustainable solutions to water supply problems. Inappropriate human activities in river basins can bring about a series of irreversible changes that may completely influence the character of water resources and the way of their downstream usage. Since the water resources are influenced by a number of links between elements and components of landscape, they cannot be managed separately. Water management calls for an integrated principle on a river basin level. For this purpose, it is crucial to understand how the landscape influences the distribution of water resources. Landscape attributes affect on quantity, quality, distribution and accessibility of water resources. Except of fixed and hardly impacted environment characteristics (e.g. soil depth, bedrock substrate, climatic conditions) affecting hydric potential of landscape, it is possible by optimal structure and management to interfere its ability of infiltration and detention of precipitation. In this article we have focused on possibilities of increasing of hydric potential of landscape by suggestion of suitable river basin management.
