Achieving this task is strengthen by the existence of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL or ISO/IEC 20000. However, to adopt this approach the strategic management of IT services is to be deployed. This phenomena forces enterprises, especially small and medium-sized, to undertake actions aimed at security of provision of IT service level, that has been negotiated with the client. The realization of that aim is not an easy task, and demand adoption of IT service management strategies by the enterprises. ITSM approach is based on satisfying client’s business needs by the IT service provider. The management of IT services in small and medium sized enterprises should begin from development and deployment of service catalog. This article describes the service catalog adoption as well as chosen processes of IT service management, on the basis of primary research. Existing service management systems are addressed toward large companies mostly in ICT sector. Small and medium enterprises seek for cheap and effective solutions which enable them to effectively manage their service. This article presents problems, reasons, success factors and benefits from implementing service management system in small businesses. The results have been obtained from small and medium enterprises in Poland.
