In rural areas,local governments need to be able to recognise, support and use this type of resource to their best advantage. In our paper, we look at the social infrastructure in rural villages in Slovakia and relate its components to some indicators of bridging social capital. We also suggest the ways for local governments to support and use the potential of the social infrastructure to generate the bridging social capital as a productive resource of the local community. We use the data of the primary research gathered through questioning the village mayors and analyse them using statistical tests and calculations of correlation coefficients. The results suggest that the infrastructure alone may not be the sufficient prerequisite for formation of the social capital that can be exploited by the local government and that local governments have the means to support both the infrastructure and the formation of social capital Public work category AFC No. of Archival Copy 38320 Catal.org.
