AnnotationThe paper deals with exolingual trilogues between native and non native speakers of Slovak and French, characterized by a specific distribution of communicative tasks. The presence of a mediator, i. e. acommunicating subject who facilitates the exchange between the (two)other interlocutors not having a common language available that would be mastered with an equal competence by all, is marked by repetitive occurrences of signals of refomulation as a central discursive strategy ensuring the success of the communication. Basing their analysis on authentic linguistic material gathered for the needs of empirical research on exolingual and multicode communication, the authors identify pertinent features of communicative behaviour of the mediator

Annotation© 2020, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. All rights reserved. The goal of this paper is to determine how certain Slovak universities offering double degrees with French partners deal with the integration of content and language, and how they apply different educational approaches known by the acronym CLIL. As we had assumed, most of the teachers interviewed were not familiar with CLIL. They knew neither its theoretical foundations and principles nor its many possible implementations. Nevertheless, we have observed that many aspects of CLIL are used by pedagogues as part of their teaching. We have also examined the coherence between the approaches deployed by those teachers and the internationalization strategy recommended by the institutions where they teach.

AnnotationThis contribution addresses the issue of foreign language teaching as a component of the Slovak educational policy. A good command of several languages is indeed crucial for the internationalization of education as well as for keeping countries competitive on a European or global scale. While many countries are implementing strategies focused on education, we are somewhat disappointed by recent developments that we have observed in Slovakia regarding how foreign languages are taught and learned. To better grasp that situation, we need to examine both the criteria that motivate learners to choose one or more foreign languages and which languages are offered by the Slovak education system. For that purpose, we have developed a quantitative survey as a pre-research step before embarking upon more extensive research. We need to analyze several theoretical notions that are essential for understanding our objective, particularly soft power, education policy and social representations of foreign languages. Our ambition is to avoid relying on pedagogical considerations that underpin most approaches in this field. Rather, we intend to focus on the political, historical, and sociolinguistic aspects of foreign language education

Annotation© 2019, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. All rights reserved. The paper is focused on the issue of brand names from a linguistic point of view. It deals with the compilation of brand name database in French and Slovak language and their semantic and formal analysis to point out differences among them. Specifically, discussion forums and blogs are the sources of the excerpting of brand names. The brands are lexicalized, and they become common nouns (Skoda: skodovka, Coca Cola: kola, Botas: botasky, Champagne: sampanske, Cognac: konak, etc.). The nouns of brands can be understandable for native speakers, but it is not the case of foreigners. Many brands are typical of various cultures, but some of them are only typical for a specific culture. The creation of brands is accompanied by lexical creativity.

Annotation© 2018, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. All rights reserved. Poetess Mila Haugová has been known to Slovak audience for more than three decades. Her literary activity began in line with the Slovak symbolism. In the nineties of the 20th century the poetry of Haugová’s poems changed. This process began after a short break, when Mila Haugová was engaged in translation activities, mainly from the contemporary Austrian literature. In our text, we have attempted to show, that this change occurred under the influence of the philosophy of language, which Haugová took from the Austrian author Ingeborg Bachmann as well as from the philosophy of poststructuralism. In the first part of the article we explain the concept of Bachmann’s language critique, which was elaborated under the influence of the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, especially his work Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (1921). The second part of our article focuses on the influence of psychoanalysis and poststructuralism

AnnotationPoukázanie na kultúrne rozdiely medzi tzv. západnými krajinami a krajinami tzv. bývalého východného bloku, skúmanie dôsledkov politických režimov. Na príklade dvoch národov (Francúzi a Slováci) skúmame rozdiely v správaní, myslení, uvažovaní, argumentovaní, plánovaní a pod. Výsledky výskumu sa dajú využiť aj v iných kultúrach. The aim of this article is to show the cultural differences that exist between Western European countries and those of the former Eastern Bloc. On the one hand, we will study the consequences of the different political regimes and on the other hand those connected to the heritage of different cultures. We will touch on the example of the French (descendants of the Latins) and the Slovaks as representatives of the Slavic countries. On a professional level, we will emphasize the observed differences concerning the methods of behaviour, of thinking, of reasoning, of argumentation and of discussion as well as such notions as motivation, time, assertiveness and even emotional dimensions. These observations and personal experiences are based on formal surveys, inquiries and interviews with French and Slovak employees who work in French businesses located in Slovakia or by the work of French and Slovak students studying in Slovakia or in France. The results of this research can be applied ineducation as well as in organisations or businesses whose workforce is composed of several nationalities or cultures.

Annotation© 2017, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. All rights reserved. We have observed more vulgarisms in mass media recently. This phenomenon is typical for TV, social networks, the Internet, radio, advertising, and so on. This study is focused on the translation of vulgarisms in the dialogue of French TV series into Slovak (target language), and their analysis. We analyse also the translations of students studying translation. The results of our research show that the degree of the perception of vulgarity in some lexical units, either words or phrasemes, is not the same in the compared languages. We noticed that the translation of some vulgar expressions caused many problems for students due to the lack of knowledge or experience. University teachers should teach future translators that language norm should be respected. Translators can lessen the level of vulgarity and intercultural aspect should be taken into consideration. The work of the translator is significant. On one hand, translators can shift the dialogue text to a more intensive level of vulgarity, and on the other they can soften vulgar expressions.

Annotation© 2017 Academic communication currently represents an independent area addressed by both research and teaching. The internationalization of universities accompanied by the high mobility of students and researchers working in multilingual environments increases the pressure on them to publish not only in English but also in other working languages. This study addresses written academic communication, specifically research article introductions written by Italian linguists and literary scholars on which rhetorical and linguistic features will be demonstrated. The methodology used draws from the genre analysis.
