    AnnotationThere is a persisting concern from English language teachers in Slovakia in effective learning approaches and strategies supporting learner-centered orientation at the beginning of the new millennium when CLIL – Content and Language Integrated learning has become a priority approach in teaching Country studies of English speaking countries as it is highly motivating because students are learning language skills, academic skills, learning strategies and special subject concepts at the same time. An inseparable part of this methodology is critical thinking. In this paper we will look at how this issue can be presented within the theory of Richard Paul which is aimed at developing critical thinking strategies and traits in student demanding their active engagement in class if foreign language students are to be communicatively competent in English.

    AnnotationThe current trends of internationalization and globalization within the higher education (HE) been considered, the importance of EMI (English as medium of instruction) and CLIL (content and language integrated learning) approaches is strongly increasing. In the article, the process of EMI and CLIL implementation in technical (particularly Informatics and Management) subjects is described. The content is structured in three parts: (1) the research sample of 80 students and 18 teachers is described, including respondents' motivation to learn/teach through EMI and/or CLIL; (2) the process of students/teachers preparation for EMI/CLIL is introduced; (3) data on their feedback collected via the questionnaire and interviews after EMI/CLIL exploitation are presented. Finally, with respect to collected data, pedagogical conclusions are provided, including didactic recommendations towards improving the process of implementation of EMI/CLIL approaches in higher education.

    AnnotationThe article provides readers with information about CLIL approach which is considered to be an appropriate response to certain educational issues, not only those related to the foreign language education. The flow of the article moves from general information and status of CLIL to the individual character of cognition and learning. irstly, the paper deals with the experience of Slovakia with the CLIL phenomenon with the main focus of attention placed on the secondary education. Author’s own observations as well observations of students participating in this type of tuition are present as well. They are followed by an analysis of two main aspects of CLIL, namely constructivism and just-in-time attributes, restricted to the given context. The problems related to intrinsic motivation of students towards learning are also addressed in the article
