Descr. články - journal articles Language English Country Great Britian Annotation The article explores young people’s expressions of political activism as a combination of the participation and agency of young people reflecting, in particular on the ethical and emotional dimensions of their social involvement. The findings are based on ethnographic research carried out with three groups of young people (the Autonomists in Germany, the No-TAV in Italy and the Not In Our Town in Slovakia) who are actively engaged in responding to the social conflict they experience or perceive. The article is based on the analysis of 61 semi-structured interviews employing a metaethnographic synthesis approach. The findings show that stigmatisation and conflict with authority and the perception of social injustice motivate the young people to engage actively in society and create alternative lifestyles and communities on the principles of solidarity, equality and mutual respect. A sense of community and solidarity emerges as both a stimulus and an outcome of young people’s social involvement and demonstrate the centrality to their engagement of its ethical and emotional dimensions. The authors suggest that relatively new forms of political activism may be understood as a cumulation of micropolitical practices driven by individual constellations of ethical and moral issues rather than by traditional, ideologically oriented political structures. Descr. príspevky v zborníku - proceedings papers Language English Country Turkey Annotation The chapter offers an analysis of the patterns of women's political representation in Slovakia with an emphasis on the European context. The comparative framework of the analysis is based on three main concepts (space, time and scale). The analysis identifies the spatial patterns of women's political representation at three levels of political life in the country, from local, through regional to national. It also indicates the basic trends and dynamics of the identified patterns over last three decades of the country's democratic transformation. Despite a slight and stable improvement over time, women are still significantly underrepresented at all three levels. The highest political representation of women was identified at the local level, the lowest at the regional level. The size of the municipality is an important factor to explain the pattern of women's political representation at the local level, with women being more represented in smaller municipalities. At the regional level, a relatively stable spatial pattern of women's representation in regional parliaments has been identified. At the level of the national parliament, the representation of women slightly improved only in the last decade. In the European perspective, Slovakia is still one of the countries with the lowest representation of women in the national parliament. On the other hand, it is one of the European countries that has an experience with women in two highest executive positions (Prime Minister and President). Slovakia had a female Prime Minister for two years (2010-2012) and by now is the first and only Central European country with a woman as President.
