AnnotationThe concept of smart tourism has gained a significant attention in the last years, leading to fruitful discussions among scientists and practitioners; however, there has been lack of attention paid to smart tourists so far. Although this emerging type of tourist has been conceptualized, it is now important to find whether it can be considered as a market segment. The article fills the gap in the smart tourism research by using two-step cluster analysis to classify 5975 tourists, finding a smart tourism market segment and analysing the characteristics and travel behaviour of this segment. This segment is worth focusing on and differentiates in all trip experience phases. The rethinking of business models of today's destination management organizations towards creating value proposition during all trip experience phases based on personalization and experience enrichment is needed in order to reach the smart tourist market segment.

AnnotationThe competitiveness and networking in tourism destinations is a well discussed topic among tourism scholars. However, the influence of partnerships of destination stakeholders on tourism competitiveness is under‑researched. This paper contributes to the recent debate on partnerships and tourism destination competitiveness, including the gargantuan compilations of competitiveness factors by Ritchie and Crouch (2003), or Dwyer and Kim (2003), by examining the link among these two variables. The central question underlying this paper is whether partnerships of private and public sector stakeholders contribute to the destination competitiveness. The analysis is based on the quantification of destinations’ competitiveness in Slovakia and the level of partnership by the creation of the partnership index. The paper concludes that the level of partnership positively affects the destination competitiveness

AnnotationThe main reasons for innovations in tourism destinations are dynamic changes in visitors’ needs and the desire to gain a competitive advantage. As the result of these ongoing changes on the tourism market, the organisational structures within the destinations are evolving. Given these facts, the aim of the paper is to analyse the activities of destination management organisations in Slovakia, to identify their impact on tourism development and to determine the internal and external barriers to their further development. Quantitative research was the main tool used to determine how institutional innovations in the form of destination management organisations are contributing to a higher level of performance of the analysed areas in the tourism sector.

AnnotationMarketing management presents current approach to tourism development. It is based on cooperation and strategic planning of tourism development in a way bringing positive effects to all stakeholders as well as for tourism destinations. Efficient application of destination marketing management is considered as a moderating factor of regional disparities. Destination management organizations (DMOs) are entitled to enforce the concept of marketing management into managerial practice. The aim of the paper is to assess the application of destination marketing management concept in Slovakia as a tool of regional development. The material utilized by the authors are secondary data processed by selected methods of descriptive statistics. The Tourism Support Act. 91/2010 Coll. determined preconditions for application of marketing management in Slovakia. According to analysis of selected indicators, we note that in Slovakia are established 40 DMOs, which activities are overlapping and duplicated
