    AnnotationThe granulometric composition of chips and dust from the longitudinal milling and sanding of thermally modified oak and spruce wood over a set of modification temperatures: 160, 180, 200 and 220 °C is determined and differences between the factors affecting the granulometry during these two woodworking processes are defined in the paper. Sieve analysis yielded percentages on individual sieves. Residual curves were used to emphasize the difference in these technologies in the granulometric composition, where a shift to the left signals smaller (finer particles) or dust particles. While the sanding dust residue curves shift to the right due to the elevated temperature of the wood treatment, i.e. towards larger fine particles and medium coarse particles, the chip residue curves from the milling process shift to the left, with a higher share of medium coarse, fine and dust fractions due as the wood modification temperature increases

    AnnotationDifferent types of sanders are used in every furniture and carpentry plant. The wood dust generated during sanding is considered one of the main health and safety hazards. The greatest danger to respiratory organs is a respirable (alveolar) component with a particle size of less than 10 μm. Thus, it is important to know the specific particle size fractions of wood dust. This study compared the granulometric compositions of abrasion wood dusts of selected wood species (beech and oak) and determined the statistical significance of individual factors (type of sander, wood species, grain size of sander, sanding direction) that affect the percentage of fractions ≤ 0.08 mm. The results confirmed that the use of narrow band and handheld (belt and disc) sanders caused high percentages of fractions ≤ 0.08 mm, above 90% in all cases. In these types of sanders, the working part of the sander is not completely covered, and the operator is in direct contact with the machine. Despite the use of a suction device, a certain amount of dust remains suspended in the air, or it settles on surfaces. In both cases, this dust poses a health and safety hazard

    AnnotationWood dust is generated as a by-product of machining. This paper discusses the granulometric analysis of selected samples of wood-settled dust from spruce (Picea excelsa), fir (Abies alba), oak (Quercus petraea Liebl.), beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), and alder (Alnus glutinosa L.). It also includes a sample of a mixture from timber production grinders in order to select the percentages of the various fractions (32 μm, 63 μm, 80 μm, 125 μm, 250 μm, 500 μm, 1000 μm, 2000 μm) of wood dust samples. Wood dust samples were made using a hand orbital sander and sized on an automatic mesh vibratory sieve machine. Comparison of the resulting granulometric fractions’ contributions to wood sanding dust was confirmed by the particle size. This paper presents selected characteristics of the chosen wood dusts by the size of particle dust fractions on the base of continual thermal loading. Thermal properties of wood dust samples were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The TGA results indicated different thermal degradation fractions of the wood dust samples during thermal loading. The wood dust consisted mainly of fractions of 80 μm, 32 μm, and < 32 μm. These fractions of all wood dusts species presented more than 70.00% of the sample (alder dust has more 80% of sample).     AnnotationFormation and presence of dust in the timber premises is part of the technology. Dust is generated as a byproduct based on the method of machining. The paper deals with granulometric analysis of selected samples of wood dust sessile oak (Quercus petraea Liebl.) and from deciduous multiple-pore wood there was chosen European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and alder (Alnus glutinosa L.) and the mixture taken directly from timber production of grinders SCM SANDYA 300RCS) for the purpose of selecting the percentages of the various fractions (0.032; 0.063; 00:08; 0.125; 0.250; 0.5; 1; 2 mm) of samples of wood dust. Wood dust samples were made using a hand orbital sander BOSCH PSS 200AC and sizing on the automatic mesh vibratory sieve machine Retsch AS 200 control. The most frequent percentages of dust particles (between 50-79 %) in all samples of wood dust there were fractions of 32 and less than 32 mu m (bottom). The most abundant percentage creates conditions of the risk of inhaling and respirable components contained in the fraction over 32 mu m and the potential of formation of a dust-air explosive mixture.     AnnotationGranulometrický rozbor a analýza tvaru a rozmerov častíc dezintegrovanej drevnej hmoty vzniknutých v procese pílenia je vykonaný na borovicovej piline vznikajúcej v procese pozdĺžneho pílenia borovicového reziva o vlhkosti w = 8,5 % na jemnorežúcej rámovej píle PRW – 15M, s reznou škárou 1,3 mm a pri rýchlosti posuvu materiálu do rezu v1 = 0,5 m.min-1 a pri rýchlosti posuvu v2 = 1,5 m.min-1. Výsledky granulometrického zloženia suchej borovicovej piliny vzniknutej v procese pozdĺžneho pílenia reziva na jemnorežúcich rámových pílach ukazujú, že borovicová pilina je tvorená z častíc s rozmermi od 84 μm do 15,2 mm. Z hľadiska tvaru zŕn sú hrubé frakcie suchej borovicovej piliny tvorené fibrilárnymi zrnami – tyčinkovitého tvaru. Stredne hrubá a jemná frakcia je tvorená v prevažnej miere izometrickými zrnami – tvaru kocky. Z porovnania kriviek zvyškov suchej borovicovej piliny s krivkami frakčnej odlúčivosti mechanických odlučovačov a filtrov plynie, že mechanické odlučovače typu T4/630, T3/1000 a T3/1600 a látkové filtre sú vhodné na odlučovanie piliny z porezu na jemnorežúcich rámových pílach PRW – 15M. This paper presents the results of granulometric analysis from desintegrated wood material processed during the sawing process is done on pine sawdust processing at the longitudinal sawing process of pine timber, with moisture content w = 8,5% on the multi – blade frame saw PRW – 15M, with width of kerf 1,3 mm and feed speeds v1 = 0,5 m.min-1, v2 = 1,5 m.min-1. Results of granulometric composition of dry pine sawdust processed during the longitudinal sawing process of timber on multi – blade frame saw show, that pine sawdust is created of particles with dimensions from 84 μm to 15,2 mm. From point of view of shape of grains, coarse fraction of dry pine sawdust is created by fibrilar grains. The medium coarse and fine fraction are mostly created by isometric grains – cube shape. From analysis of conditions of separation of dry pine sawdust in separators and filters results, that mechanical separators with elements T4/630, T3/1000 and T3/1600 and filters are convenient for separation of sawdust from sawing of wood on fine-sawing frame-saws PRW – 15M.

    AnnotationCieľom príspevku je zhodnotenie vplyvu technicko - technologických faktorov a modelu brúsenia, merného tlaku, zrnitosti a reznej rýchlosti na granulometrické zloženie drevného brúsneho prachu získaného z procesu brúsenia smreka na ručnej pásovej brúske GBS 100 AE, stanovenie objemovej hustoty drevného brúsneho prachu, granulometrická analýza drevného brúsneho prachu pri brúsení vybratej dreviny ručnou pásovou brúskou a vyhodnotenie získaných výsledkov z hľadiska modelu brúsenia, merného tlaku, zrnitosti a reznej rýchlosti. The results of this work is valorization influence of technical – technological factors and model of grinding, measuring pressure, granularity and cutting speed on granulometric composition of wood abrasion dust which was acquired from grinding process of spruce by using of hand belt grinding machine GBS 100 AE, determination of volumes densities of wood abrasion dust, granulometric analysis of wood abrasion dust, by the grinding of chosen wood plants on hand belt grinding machine and interpretation obtained results from aspects of model of grinding, measuring pressure, granularity and cutting speed
