Descr. články - journal articles Language English Country Czech Republic Annotation Aim: The aim of the study was to analyze healthcare workers' perceptions of the Slovak health system. Design: We conducted a mixed-design cross-sectional study that combined qualitative and quantitative analyses. Methods: We collected 269 associations with the cue word "health system" from 91 health workers (30 medical doctors, 30 nurses, and 31 paramedics) to access social representations of the studied phenomenon. After establishing the final list of categories, we calculated frequencies and proportions, and also conducted a network analysis of associations. Results: We identified 13 main categories, of which 53.5% had a neutral emotional charge, 38% carried a negative charge, and only 4% indicated a positive charge. The most saturated category was the Meaning of work (20.8%), followed by Negative general perceptions (14.9%), which was also the most central category. The strongest point of connection between neutral and negative categories in network analysis was between Negative general perception and the Meaning of work. Conclusion: Our study revealed that negatively valenced associations about the system were numerous and dominant. Despite this fact, health workers still perceived their job to be meaningful, which is one of the possible explanations for their staying in a system perceived to be dysfunctional. This aim is pursued by comparison of semantic inferentialism with another two popular semantic approaches to moral discourse, namely representational and expressivist approaches. While the representationalism claims that statements gain their meanings by representing certain states of affairs, the expressivist semantics claims that the meanings of moral statements consist in the emotions or desires we express by them. Thesis of this paper is that semantic inferentialism is a promising semantic theory of moral discourse because it allows us to take the position that moral statements are meaningful without assuming the existence of controversial entities in the form of objective ethical facts, and at the same time, it does not require us to interpret moral discourse merely as a means for expressing our emotions and desires. Prvá časť predstavuje koncepciu reprezentácie C. S. Peircea, ktorú v protiklade ku konkurenčným teóriám (N. Goodman, R. Barthes) autor pokladá za najkomplexnejšiu. Predstavuje vzťah reprezentácie ako triadický vzťah s jeho minimálnymi nutnými podmienkami a poukazuje na jeho charakteristiky, ktoré z takéhoto chápania vyplývajú. Týmito sú neúplnosť, nevyčerpateľnosť a principiálna arbitrárnosť reprezentácie. V nasledujúcej text načrtáva neostré hranice reprezentácie v porovnaní s pojmami performancia a diskurz. Analyzuje spätosť procesu reprezentácie (a jeho zrkadlového korelátu interpretácie) s kategóriami času a priestoru a zamýšľa sa spolu s L. Manovichom, nakoľko je pojem reprezentácie nutný pre estetiku a filozofiu umenia v súčasnej dobe a nakoľko je umenie zviazané s predpokladom konečného objektu. Tretia časť skúma konkrétne príklady reprezentácie v umení a jej časové a priestorové charakteristiky. Descr. príspevky v zborníku - proceedings papers Language English Country Turkey Annotation The chapter offers an analysis of the patterns of women's political representation in Slovakia with an emphasis on the European context. The comparative framework of the analysis is based on three main concepts (space, time and scale). The analysis identifies the spatial patterns of women's political representation at three levels of political life in the country, from local, through regional to national. It also indicates the basic trends and dynamics of the identified patterns over last three decades of the country's democratic transformation. Despite a slight and stable improvement over time, women are still significantly underrepresented at all three levels. The highest political representation of women was identified at the local level, the lowest at the regional level. The size of the municipality is an important factor to explain the pattern of women's political representation at the local level, with women being more represented in smaller municipalities. At the regional level, a relatively stable spatial pattern of women's representation in regional parliaments has been identified. At the level of the national parliament, the representation of women slightly improved only in the last decade. In the European perspective, Slovakia is still one of the countries with the lowest representation of women in the national parliament. On the other hand, it is one of the European countries that has an experience with women in two highest executive positions (Prime Minister and President). Slovakia had a female Prime Minister for two years (2010-2012) and by now is the first and only Central European country with a woman as President.
