    $a Foreign language teaching methodologies make a frequent use of linguistic know-how. Intercomprehension, or interlinguistic comprehension, may be a part of it. The aim of the paper is to present the concept and see its utility in translators and interpreters training keeping in mind that the theoretical and methodological framework for strenghtening intercomprehensive (receptive) skills of translator trainees must always be developed in a close connection to the translatological basis.

    $a The paper deals with the interdisciplinary concept of intercomprehension, becoming increasingly of use in today's linguistics, educational science and sociolinguistics. Based on the idea of searching for cues towards comprehension between languages belonging to the same language group, presenting both genetic and typological affiliations, it became a rich source of reflection and a basis for didactic applications. The aim of the paper is to see the evolution of the concept and to identify some of the basic parameters of intercomprehension-based educational practices.
