    AnotáciaField survey of mesophilous grassland vegetation of the Muránska planina National park and its buffer zone was carried out in 2001 - 2005. By the means of Zurich-Montpellier aproach 150 releves were sampled by the authors. Further 58 unpublished releves sampled in 1982 - 1993 by H. Ružičková were added to the data set. Twinspan classification found the greatest floristic dissimilarity between mountain and/or acidophilous communities and submountain communities. In this paper we present resulting classification of 80 releves, representing only the submountain grassland. within Arrhenatherion elatioris alliance, we identified oligotrophic (Trifolio-Festucetum rubrae) and eutrophic (Poo-Trisetetum flavescentis) meadows on cristalline bedrock; Lilio bulbiferi-Arrhenatheretum elatioris was found on dolomite of the Veľká lúka. Pastinaco sativae-Arrhenatheretum elatioris and Ranunculo bulbosi-Arrhenatheretum elatioris are the most frequent meadows communities on limestone foothills of the region, together with the Salvio verticillatae-Festucetum rupicolae ass. nova of the Bromion erecti alliance. Within the last alliance the Carici albae-Brometum monocladi ass. nova was also identified with dominance of low Carex species. this community belongs to the most species-rich meadows communities in the investigated area. Communities of mesophilous submountain pastures were ordered to Anthoxantho odorati-Agrostietum tenuis, intensive grazed pastures to Lolio perennis-Cynosuretum cristati and subxerphilous pastures with dominance of Festuca rupicola were classified into Fragario viridis-Festucetum rupicolae association
