Anotácia	There are a number of current socio-political problems that need to be addressed that are weakening the unity of the European Union, such as Brexit, Euroscepticism, and igration. Economic imbalance between the extremely rich and very poor results in a growing dissatisfaction of the member states’ citizens whose trust in their governing bodies is decreasing. The loss of civic certainties and unstable personality profiles lead them to search for new identities. This study aims to reflect upon the issue of European identity in the light of the historical and political development of Europe and Slovakia. It also presents the opinions of students regarding this issue
