AnnotationFormation of acid mine drainage (AMD) at the study area Šobov quarry is associated with oxidation of pyrite impregnations in the quarry of hydroquartzite. Oxidation causes acidification of the water and the release of heavy metals. In the article are presented results of the biomass fly ash application for heavy metals removal from acid mine drainage water. Three types of biomass ash were used. Two of used ashes were fly ashes from the heating plant combusting biomass (fly ash from the bag filter and fly ash from the mechanical separator) and the third was the biomass ash from domestic combustion of beech and oak wood. Analysed acid mine drainage water contained high concentrations of metals Fe (753 mg.L-1), Mn (16.2 mg.L-1), Zn (2.46 mg.L-1) and had low pH (2.4). Various doses of fly ashes (1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 20 g) were reacting with acid mine drainage water during 4 hours. The pH of acid mine drainage water was controlled by increasing dose of the fly ash and with increasing time of reaction. The best results were obtained with use of plant fly ash from the bag filter which increased pH of the water to 8.1. Application of this fly ash was effective in removal of all analysed metals from the water. When using other two tested fly ashes increase of concentrations of some metals occurred
