[et al.]. -- The Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra), a native mammal species, is distributed – among other areas in Slovakia - also in the transboundary Ipeľ river catchment. The population of this species is affected by many negative factors. This paper highlights the problem of road mortality (accidents) in the middle part of Ipeľ River. In March 2013 we registered 4 killed otters in the 32 km long section of the second class road Šahy – Veľký Krtíš along the Ipeľ River. Collisions occurred in protected areas too. A partial solution to this problem may be reduction of vehicle speed and installation of road signs to warn drivers about the presence of otters in the most dangerous passing places
