The information revolution and the European Security Architecture

  1. Čižik, Tomáš, 1989- The information revolution and the European Security Architecture / Tomáš Čižik. -- The development of internet together with the globalisation and information era created a more interconnected and interdependent world than ever before. Social media and online communication platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram became the main source of information for many people, but especially for the young generation. Information became a powerful tool, which can influence not only individuals but also whole nations and alliances. Moreover, information cannot be limited via traditional boundaries, because of its abstract form. In the last 20 years, information has been gradually gaining more and more power. States, non-state actors, companies and societies are highly dependent on information due to the onset of the information revolution. The information revolution had influenced all aspects of human life. Even though information revolution started many years ago, the international community did not realize its full potential until the March 2014, when the Russian Federation illegally annexed the Crimean Peninsula and triggered the so-called hybrid warfare against the West, the main component of which was information warfare
