Evaluation of assortment of ornamental grasses and their environmental importance in the urban landscape

Tomaškin, Ján, 1963- Evaluation of assortment of ornamental grasses and their environmental importance in the urban landscape / Ján Tomaškin, Judita Tomaškinová. -- Purpose and possibility of ornamental grasses use in garden and landscape creation is evaluated in this study. We evaluate collection of 40 taxon of ornamental grasses, located in the Grassland and Mountain Agriculture Research Institute (GMARI) area in Banská Bystrica (Slovakia). During the growing season in the years 2013–2018, we evaluated the ecological requirements of ornamental grass species to cultivated environment, their persistence, reproduction, plant height, flowering period, decorative, hibernation success and possibilities of their cultivation in Slovakia. We proposed their use in vegetative arrangements in urban landscape. We assessed the importance of their ecosystem functions and services, we also showed the possible risks and restrictions of their planting (invasive nature, pollen allergens).
