The Izabela tunnel is situated in the upper Ipeľ river basin in central Slovakia. The following bat species were found: Rhinolophus hipposideros, R. ferrumequinum, Myotis myotis, and M. emarginatus. The aims of this work are: to summarize the results of surveys on otter distribution and population numbers; to analyze seasonal dynamics of spraint numbers at the chosen sampling sites; to draw some proposals which contain measures to reduce the influence of the water dam. The otter currently occurs along Slatina river from Vígľaš village to Zvolen and all of its major tributaries. Of the 3 348 spraints, 841 were fresh, 1 112 medium and 1 395 old. Author founded 169 smears too. Numbers and seasonality in sprainting behaviour were studied at 6 sites in Slatina river during years 1997–1999 and at 5 sites in Slatina river and Ľubica brook from September 2007 to September 2008. Results from both studies demonstrated that sprainting behaviour was significantly seasonal with most of fresh spraints occurring in winter. Diagrams of seasonal changes from years 1997-1999 showed peak average numbers in fresh spraints during December – January, in medium spraints in January, in old spraints in March and November and in scent signs in January. The lowest marking activity in all spraint types was found in summer. Diagrams of seasonal changes from years 2007-2008 showed peak average numbers in fresh spraints in January, in medium spraints in January, in old spraints in June. The lowest marking activity in all spraint types was found in April. Otter counts based on observed otter trails on newly fallen snow were made in 1996, 1999, 2001 and 2006. Only 1-3 otters were observed during this censuses.
