Considering the Slovak cultural conditions, we developed the Slovak version of the Personal, Social Responsibility Scale (Heinzova & Brozmanova, 2018) based on Conrad and Hedin´s scale (1981). Conrad and Hedin (1981) define responsibility as a multi-faceted concept including three major dimensions – attitudes, competencies, efficacy, and individual acts. In our research, we verified the Slovak Personal and Social Responsibility Scale (S-PSRS, Heinzova & Brozmanova, 2018) in the context of Petrides´s trait emotional intelligence assessed by Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – short form (TEIQue-SF, Petrides 2009, adapted to the Slovak conditions by Kaliska, Nabelkova, & Salbot, 2015) assessing the global level of trait EI and its four factors (well-being, self-control, emotionality, sociability). The study was conducted with a sample of 153 university students. By Pearson correlation analysis was estimated a general trend of positive relations between trait EI and personal and social responsibility. Thus, we can state that students characterized by optimism, happiness, empathy, emotional perception and expression, emotional regulation, low impulsiveness, and stress management are also sensitive to a community or wider society needs in which they live, they feel committed to respond to the needs and problems of their social environment and have competence or ability to act responsibly. Research groups were Turks from Turkey (N=230, Mage=27.6 years, /SD=9.8/, 53% of men) and Slovaks from Slovakia (N=264, Mage=33.2 years /SD=11.9, 30% of men/). PTSD was assessed by PCL-5 (PTSD Checklist for DSM-5, Weathers et al., 2013), and trait EI by Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF; Petrides 2009) both modified and adapted to groups. Chi-square analysis showed the strong evidence of PTSD prevalence difference between groups in favor to the Slovaks with more respondents with no PTSD. T-test analysis and effect size estimation proved a higher level of PTSD for Turks in comparison to the Slovaks (p≤.001; d=.54), though no group differences in trait EI and its four factors were estimated. Correlation and regression analysis revealed the higher level of trait EI was significantly related to lower level of PTSD (moderate to strong relations in both groups). Global trait EI level predicted significantly to a certain extent PTSD in both groups (for the Turks up to 28%, p≤.001), for the Slovaks to 16%, p≤.001). Self-control was the only significant moderate predictor in both groups (p≤.001) whilst controlling for the other EI factors. The study emphasizes the need to educate, facilitate and support any man´s emotion-related personality traits, especially self-control skills, as a form of PTSD prevention, intervention and a part of treatment to lead a successful life.
