A contact with information presented in a written form necessarily belongs to various areas of everyday human life. From the results of international studies, it is clearly known that the younger generation of school-age children does not even reach the average level of this skill. The school environment has the most important role in terms of developing reading literacy of pupils and all its aspects. The main aim of the presented research was to find out and compare the level of reading literacy achieved by pupils of primary and secondary schools with the help of geographically oriented text. The research involved 70 pupils at ISCED 2 and ISCED 3A levels of education. The methods of complex tasks and cloze-test were used. Results of the research, among other things, confirmed that the level of literacy is related to the age and sex of pupils.
