From its beginnings until the official ban (1905-1945), it won democratic parliamentary elections in Slovakia three times (1925, 1929, 1935) and was the only permitted Slovak political party in the fascist-Axis Slovak State (1939-1945), a vassal state of Hitler's Germany. Party's relevance predestined it to comment and participate in the key political events of the 1920s-1940s period and, thanks to the party's authority, to actively influence them. Slovakia's relationship with its southern neighbour, heavily marked by the shadows of the past, belonged to this spectrum as well. The article provides an overview of the turbulent dynamics of the Hlinka's Slovak People's Party's relation to Hungary and Hungarian politics, identifies the trajectory, and the core milestones of Slovak-Hungarian relations impacted by the party led by Catholic priests Andrej Hlinka and Jozef Tiso. Európa stredná Jazyk dok. angličtina Krajina Poľsko Anotácia The post-communist transition of Central European States (the V4 countries and their neighbours, when speaking about a broader Central Europe) took place in the last decade of the 20th century until the years 2002 and 2004, when the V4 countries were allowed to access the EU and NATO. In this case, the term transition accounts for changes in the political status of states, a transition period in which basic pillars of the state — political system, the market economy, replaced the centrally-planned economy, the security and agenda of human rights, were assessed by new criteria. It was a complicated process that had to be reflected from the perspective of science and research, but also it had to be accepted from the perspective of citizens who did not always perceive the changes in a positive way. Central Europe lacked public discussion, a space that was supposed to be dedicated to the supporters of integration, but also to opposing opinions in order to make transparent attitudes, objections, but mainly, to introduce comprehensible projects of further development. Today many theoreticians from Western Europe view the absence of public discussion to be a serious lack of planning in the preparation period. Mainly future positive benefits were presented, liberalism as the best solution of economic problems was unilaterally preferred. Little attention was given to possible impacts of the other ideological or theoretical concepts, e.g., conservatism, which puts an emphasis on the important role of the state, traditions, paternalism, and other aspects, which could, at first sight, operate as controlling mechanisms, even barriers to liberalism and integration. At that time, conservatism seemed to be an outdated ideology. But in practice, the situation was different. Conservative parties, and particularly the conservative perspective of reality, became an essential way of problem solving. The states and the groupings of states that have ever occurred in this region are typical for a significant qualitative distinctive characteristics comparing to those states of Western Europe. Even though these Central European states account for conglomerates of nationalities, ethnics and religions, in fact, there is no destructive war that might have been waged among them by the end of 20th century. Central Europe, on its way to a new perception of the internal and foreign policy of states on the threshold of 21st century, had to overcome two enormous barriers. The first one concerned ideological change, the second one was related to the change of economic rules in national economies. From time to time, theoreticians differ in their opinion on which of those barriers was more preeminent to be overcome first. Logically, the political changes and the acceptance of a new ideology were a high priority, thus a base for transformation of economies had to be formed, which has been proved, especially from a time perspective. Spojené štáty americké Jazyk dok. slovenčina Krajina Slovenská republika Systematika 327 Anotácia Power potential and its attributes lay down the fundamental prerequisites enabling a state to achieve the highest positions within the power pyramid. In the case of the United states, democracy and free market contributed to the US global leadership, yet a significant role was played also by the character of the society and ideology. The aim of the article is to point out to the ideological sources of the US foreign policy that have led to the US rise as the global leader. The study begins with an explanation of the history of changes in the classification of powers, continues with models of power structure and the cycles of world hegemony. Special attention is paid to development of US foreign policy, focusing particularly on several contexts of the decision making process how to assume the role of a global power. This paper is approaching sources of American power in the second decade of the 21st century and outlines the potential and limits of American leadership.The study concludes that the military, economic and soft power resources have made the United States central to the workings of the global balance of power. But the potential domestic decline in the near future could bring the lost of capacity to convert the power resources into effective leadership. However, the American leadership in 21st century will not look like it did in the 20th century.
