AnotáciaSocio-emotional skills are the skills of the 21st century. They have steadily increased their share of learning from 2017 to 2023 according to more than 800 companies from all world regions in Future of Jobs Report (2023). The role of emotions has been studied in decades and emotion regulation has drawn much attention also in the education (Neve et al., 2023, Martin, & Ochsner, 2016, Jacobs, & Gross, 2014, Fried, 2011). Emotion regulation is a critical life skill that can facilitate learning and improve educational outcomes. Although the relationship between emotion regulation and emotional intelligence has been studied, potential mechanisms that might account for this relationship are still unclear also within personality space. The study analyzes emotion regulation in the context of trait emotional intelligence model and emotional intelligence model as an ability through potential mediating role of personality traits assessed in a sample of 152 Slovak high school students (Mage=18.56, SD=.64, 56% of females). The level of emotion regulation was assessed by Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF; Petrides, 2009) and its factor of self-control, Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale (BEIS, Davies et al., 2010), and its two domains: regulation of own emotions and regulation of other´s emotion, and NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI, Costa & McCrae, adapted by Ruisel & Halama, 2007). The statistical Pearson analysis proved positive moderate significant relation between self-control from TEIQue-SF and regulation of own emotions from BEIS (r=.436***) and weak positive relation with regulation of other´s emotion (r=.237**). The partial correlation analyses estimated self-control and regulation of own emotions in positive weak and significant relation while controlling for all Big Five personality traits (r=.189*) and no relation between these two variables while controlling for Big Five traits. The study verifies the construct validity of the emotion regulation construct in the context of emotional intelligence and personality traits, also methodological limits, and possible future empirical verifications and practical applications. Emotion regulation relevance in educational setting is emphasized with practical implications for diagnostics and intervention within socio-emotional skills training.

AnotáciaThe study theoretically and empirically analyzes trait emotional intelligence (EI) potential in the context of transformational leadership by self-report tools: a global level of trait EI and its four factors (well-being, self-control, emotionality, sociability) by TEIQue-SF (Petrides, 2009, adapted to the Slovak conditions by Kaliská, Heinzová & Nábělková, 2019) and five leadership practices (Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, Encourage the Heart) by Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI, Kouzes & Posner, 2017, adapted by Kaliská & Heinzová, 2022) of the Slovak future teachers as potential educational transformative leaders in Slovakia (N=121, Mage=41-4, /SD=11.4/; 84% of females). Statistically significant positive moderate to strong relations between global level of trait EI and sociability factor and five leadership practices were proved (.29≤r≤.49). There were high significant differences between the leaders with high and low EI level in all five leadership practices in favor to the ones with a high trait EI level. The study emphasizes the importance of emotionally intelligent and competent behavior of a leader who is trying to transform our educational systems for the purpose of addressing and reaching common school aims. The study is a part of a research project VEGA 1/0152/21.

AnotáciaThe study theoretically and empirically analyzes trait emotional intelligence (EI) potential in the context of health (health domains and attitude by WHO and BMI index) by self-report tools: trait EI (global level, factors: well-being, self-control, emotionality, sociability) by TEIQue-ASF (Petrides, 2009) and health domains (physical health, psychological health, social relations, environment) and general health attitude by WHOQOL-BREF (WHO, 1996) and BMI index of future teachers as potential educational leaders in Slovakia (N=107, Mage=22.3, /SD=2.9/; 83% of females). Statistically significant positive moderate to strong relations between trait EI (and its factors) and health domains and global health attitude were proved (up to 40% of global health is predicted by trait EI). While BMI was neither in relation with trait EI nor health. There were significant differences between overweight and healthy weight in health domains and attitude in favor to healthy weight ones. The study emphasizes the importance of socio-emotional learning of educational emotionally intelligent leaders. The study is a part of a research project “Psychological Approach to Creation, Implementation, and Verification of Educational Leader´s Competence Model Development (APVV-17-0557)”.

AnotáciaNomophobia as a new form of phobia is becoming a very serious topic threatening the ones responsible for education and upbringing of a new generation. The aim of our research was to find out whether nomophobia (assessed by Nomophobia questionnaire, NMP-Q, Yildirim & Correia, 2015) differs in the context of gender (N=110, Mage=14,51; SD=.501, 53.6% of girls) and is related to emotional aspects, i.e. trait emotional intelligence (EI, Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Adolescent´s Short Form, TEIQue-ASF, Petrides, 2009), self-esteem (Rosenberg’s Self-esteem Scale, RSS, Rosenberg, 1965) and trait anxiety (Spielberger´s Trait Anxiety Inventory, STAI, Spielberger, Gorsuch, & Lushene, 1983). The analysis has proved statistically significant gender differences in nomophobia in favor to boys (p=.000), significant negative relations with trait EI and trait anxiety, and significant positive relation with self-esteem. The study discusses the importance of social-emotional education as a form of nomophobia addiction prevention. The study presents the partial results of KEGA 028UMB-4/2021 and KEGA 039UMB-4/2021 projects.
